Constipation...tells us at risk for colon cancer

 - Constipation is defecating less than 3 times per week. The stool is hard and dry. It takes a long time to completely excrete and when finished, it still feels like it's not finished at all.

- If you have regular constipation blood in the stool along with unexplained weight loss. or are pale or tired, you should immediately see a doctor for treatment.

- People over 45 years old or have a family history of colon cancer. They are considered to be at risk of developing colon cancer.

Although constipation is not a dangerous disease, if neglected and chronically constipated for a long time, it may lead to certain complications such as ulcers in the large intestine. Hemorrhoids, etc., as well as sometimes being a warning sign of colon cancer.



Causes of constipation include:

-stress

-Eating foods with little fiber or there is insufficient quantity

-Drink a little water

-Lack of exercise

-Accustomed to frequently taking laxatives or enemas

-Likes to hold back stool

-It may be caused by side effects of certain medications, such as birth control pills, antacids, and blood pressure medications.

-Some congenital diseases that affect excretion such as diabetes, Parkinson's, and cerebral stenosis.

When should I see a doctor?

-If the stool has blood in it, the stool has changed in appearance, color or size. While excreting, there is rectal bleeding.

-Pain when defecating more often than usual

-A lump was found in the abdomen.

-Feeling pain and straining in the anal area, similar to having to defecate all the time.

-Unexplained weight loss

-Anemia, fatigue

-Severe stomach pain But I don't defecate or fart.

These symptoms may be symptoms of colon cancer.

Chronic constipation, colon cancer can be prevented by exercising. Get enough rest. Drink 8-10 glasses of water per day. Avoid drinking alcohol and refrain from smoking.

People who suffer from constipation, nutritionists recommend that each day they should consume at least 30 grams of fiber in their diet. Observe from the stool that if it is soft and floats, it means that you are eating enough dietary fiber. If the stool is hard, you should eat more fruits and vegetables. Practice bowel movements at least every day. and do not hold back stool unnecessarily

Adjusting your diet and changing your bowel habits appropriately may help solve the problem of chronic constipation. But there are still many risk factors for colon cancer.

   According to the American Cancer Society, the age limit for colon cancer screening is 45 years or if there is a family history of colon cancer. You can get checked before the age of 45. The screening method that doctors currently use is a colonoscopy.
