Hearing loss

 Hearing loss can occur suddenly from exposure to loud noises such as explosions, firecrackers, or gunfire, and hearing loss can occur slowly. Due to age, heredity, certain diseases, including the use of certain drugs for a long time.



Signs that indicate we have hearing problems

- It feels like everyone around you is mumbling and not being understood. Sometimes you have to ask the other person to repeat themselves.

- Experiencing difficulty trying to understand the conversation partner in noisy places such as markets, train stations, department stores, etc.

- Heard conversation but cannot understand the conversation, especially if the speaker is a child or a woman with a high-pitched voice. Sounds of letters such as S, H, F, TH, etc.

- You haven't heard some natural sounds in a long time, such as birds chirping and rain falling.

These symptoms are signs of hearing loss.

Hearing loss is divided into/types of hearing loss.

- Conductive hearing loss: There is a pathology in the outer ear, middle ear, or both, causing sound to not pass through the inner ear normally.

- Sensorineural hearing loss has a pathology in the inner ear or auditory nerve.

- Mixed hearing loss has pathology that occurs together with both impaired sound conduction and impaired hearing. Problems with the outer ear or the middle and inner ears together

How to check for hearing loss

- History taking and physical examination to determine if there is earwax blockage or middle ear infection The shape of your ears can also cause hearing problems.

- Hearing test using a tuning fork (Tuning fork test), which is made of metal and has 2 legs. When tapped, it vibrates at a constant frequency. Helps in detecting ear pathology.

- Hearing test

The examinee will wear headphones and listen to sounds or words through the headphones to assess the loudness of the sound that can be heard. This will be done by an audiologist in a soundproof room.

How to treat hearing loss

- Cleaning to remove earwax: Hearing loss from blocked earwax can be corrected by suctioning or using a tool to remove the earwax.

- Surgery: Some types of hearing loss can be corrected with surgery. For example, Middle ear infections can cause fluid to build up in the ear. The doctor will insert a tube to drain the water out.

- Hearing aids are suitable for people who have lost their hearing due to damage to the inner ear. The hearing aid specialist will be able to recommend the benefits and different types of hearing aids.

- Cochlear implant surgery: If hearing aids do not solve the hearing problem. Doctors may surgically implant a cochlear implant, which stimulates the hearing nerve in the abnormal inner ear. This is different from a hearing aid, which amplifies sound and transmits sound into the ear.

Living with hearing loss

-Tell friends and family about your symptoms.

-When talking, face the speaker and politely ask him to speak louder and clearer if he cannot be heard.

-When talking The TV or radio should be turned off to reduce noise.

- Use a hearing aid or amplified speaker for your cell phone.
