7 ways to relieve knee pain at home

Knee pain can occur for many reasons. Treatment methods will depend on the cause of the pain. Therefore, if pain occurs you should consult a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment. If the cause is not serious, the patient can take care of it themselves.

Causes of knee pain

1. Osteoarthritis

This symptom can be found at any age. It is caused by cartilage in the knee deteriorating with age, injuries from sports or symptoms from rheumatoid disease, etc.

2. Knee pain around the patella (Patellofemaral Pain Syndrome)

It is pain in the front of the knee bone where it connects to the thigh bone. It is most common among runners, jumpers, or people who exercise and have a heavy impact on their knees.

3. Lubricating fluid sacs around inflamed joints

It is a bag of lubricating liquid that helps reduce friction and impact on the shoulders, hips, and knees. This is caused by our behavior of being in a pressing position for a long time, such as squats, kneeling for a long time, etc.

4. Knee joint tendonitis

This symptom is found in people who exercise regularly. The cause is from using the knee in the same position repeatedly for a long time or receiving an acute impact on the knee causing pain inside the knee. In addition, the elderly group also experiences a large number of symptoms of the disease. This is because the knee joints deteriorate and lack flexibility.

5. Increased body weight

The knee is an organ in the body that works 4-5 times harder than other organs due to constant movement in our daily activities. Therefore, increased body weight affects the work of the knees as well because they have to support weight from the body while doing activities, whether walking, running, sitting, or standing for long periods of time, all of which directly affect the knees.

When we initially have knee pain, we can take care of ourselves by adjusting various behaviors in our daily lives. Taking care of yourself when you have knee pain can be done as follows.

1. Avoid positions that cause knee pain, such as sitting with bent knees or sitting on the floor.

2. Rest the use of the knee joint

3. If there is severe pain, you should apply a hot compress.

4. Use a cane to help support you.

5. Control your weight to be within the appropriate range.

6. Exercise your knee muscles regularly.

7.Avoid using this medicine because it contains dangerous substances such as steroids, which will have serious consequences.

Preventing and taking care of yourself to prevent knee pain

• Control your body weight to suit your age and occupation.

• The older you get, the thinner your bones become. Your weight should be controlled within an appropriate range.

• Go up and down stairs as necessary. Elderly people should not go up or down stairs.

• Sleep on the bed instead of the floor so that you don't have to bend your knees as much.

• Sit in a chair that is high enough that your knees are perpendicular and your feet touch the floor. Don't sit on the floor for a long time.

• Avoid squatting.
