What is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a condition in which thinking about a particular

matter too much results in behavior that repeats the thought. For example, turning

off the bathroom lights or washing hands frequently etc. The patient will not be able

to restrain himself from doing it. When you do this, you will feel relieved before you

 start worrying again.

What causes obsessive-compulsive disorder?

 - Brain function and the abnormal nervous system affects the feelings expressed.

 - It can occur from genetics. If someone in the family has this disease, it increases

 the risk.

 - Most environments or events that have been encountered are severe events that

 affect one's life.

Symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder

 - Obsessive-compulsive disorder is thinking about one thing over and over but still

not deciding to take action. For example, thinking a lot about whether you forgot to

close the door or not when you left the house.

 - Obsessive-compulsive disorder involves doing things more than usual, such as

washing hands frequently for no reason and being unable to stop. Afraid that there

will be dirt even after cleaning, etc.

Treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder

Can be done in 2 parts:

  - Using medicine helps balance chemical levels in the brain, making the patient

 feel better.

  - Psychotherapy by changing thoughts and behavior. It is a universal therapy to

solve current problems and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors. Focusing on

current problems, not looking back to problems that existed in the past, which gave

 good treatment results.

Preventing obsessive-compulsive disorder

- Always stay healthy and get enough sleep.

- Try to live your daily life as normal, such as working full time, spending time

socializing with family and friends, etc.

- Avoid triggers that may make symptoms worse. Including relieving stress such as

reading books, listening to music, watching television, doing yoga, etc.

- Learn how to manage and deal with obsessive-compulsive symptoms. You may

consult a specialist or join a therapy group to help you feel better.

- Take medicine strictly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop using the

medicine yourself as this may make your symptoms worse. You must consult your

doctor before taking any other medicines or dietary supplements.

- Seek immediate medical attention if you are no longer able to cope with your

 obsessive-compulsive symptoms.
